Known as “Glühwein” in Germany and Austria, “vin chaud” in France, “mulled wine” in the UK, and “vin brûlé” in Italy, this is the ultimate wine cocktail to celebrate the season. Prepare it at home using a bold Syrah or the classic Cabernet Sauvignon from Viña Maipo.
INGREDIENTS
- 750 ml Classic Series Syrah or Cabernet Sauvignon
- 80 g brown sugar
- 4 cardamom pods
- 6 cloves
- 1 large cinnamon stick
- 2 star anise
- A pinch of ground nutmeg
- Peel of one orange
PREPARATION
- Place all the spices and orange peel in a wide pot. Add the sugar and heat gently until the aromas start to release.
- Pour just enough wine to cover the sugar and stir with a wooden spoon until it dissolves.
Add the rest of the wine, stirring well. Heat over medium heat, ensuring it doesn’t boil. Cook on medium-low heat for about 30 minutes, keeping the temperature controlled. - Taste for sweetness and add more sugar if needed.
Strain the mixture to remove the spices, then store in a clean bottle or serve hot. Garnish each glass with an orange slice and a cinnamon stick for a festive touch.
